The talk is being created based on 4 different pillars:
History: A brief introduction showing how Content Management Systems and an Information Architecture framework started to help the Government of the State of Ohio in the United States and how they become outdated as the product was aging. As we already commented, this is a brief intro to set the stage with a common vocabulary and a list of successful and also painful implementations, showing some cases and user feedback about how Ohio State Government websites helped their lives and they failed as well.
Research: the second part isolate the main issues identified on past projects and start the discussion about how the Information Architecture was designed to allow not just the initial implementation, but the building blocks to allow its evolution on the short, mid and large timeframe. Information about how applications were mapped, how the content was rewritten and sometimes migrated to bring some clarity to the citizen. Also, we will talk about the challenges of integrating the framework in a meaningful Content Strategy that should mitigate the chance of failure due to lack of adoption by content authors.
Implementation: How we connected the research phase on the ECM platform – Websphere Content Management + Websphere Portal. How we collected, enhanced and migrated content from Sitecore and Dot Nuke to WCM. Understand the differences in how controlled vocabularies and Taxonomies were created and how the new taxonomies take place on the current platform. How different content types are being created and served based on segmentation rules that come from business, but also technology and security. On this section, we will also share stories on strategies we have implemented that worked successfully and some that failed as well. This is the densest part of the presentation and put the audience on the tranches of the Ohio Digital Experience Program.
Closure: The last pillar will create a comparison between past and present techniques, and outline the next steps in of the biggest Digital Transformation program in the world. The reflection will focus on the balance between success and failure in a very candid reflection about our roles as Information Architects and the impact we have on thousands, sometimes millions of lives. The idea is to directly connect this pillar with the Conference Theme since we always focus on the impact the lives of the users we are designing a solution.
About the speaker(s)
Alysson is a seasoned professional with expertise supporting organizations via Information Architecture, Interaction Design, and Usability. Working at the field since the end of the ’90s when the first Polar Book was released, he experienced many changes during the last years in the way we make things clear. Nonetheless, he still believes that the most significant changes are yet to come.
Working as an Information Architecture and User Experience Director at Base22, he is leading a talented team of Craftworkers supporting Fortune 100 companies and Government Entities while also evolving the Solution and Information Design Practice for Enterprise projects.
